Online Teaching - Not for the Faint of Heart

We've all heard countless times that the 21st century classroom will take place "anywhere, anytime, anyplace". Well, if you are teaching online, welcome to the 21st century classroom. Teaching online is NOT for the faint-of-heart. Rather, it is for the hearty, those willing to take risks and overcome the boundaries of distance and time. It takes time, patience, and effort to make the students feel connected to their course, and help them establish a learning community.  Here are 5 tips to help you conquer this brave new world.

 1. Make your presence known.  Let students know how they can contact you.  Ensure they know your email address, your twitter handle, facebook page, or other method of connecting. Unless you want to be awakened from your deep REM sleep, you will also want to post your best times for them to contact you.
